THE acclaimed Scottish crime writer engages the New York Times best-selling author in a discussion covering Gerritsen’s fascinating journey from physician to novelist and her latest blockbuster, “Listen To Me.” This event serves as a special prologue to Granite Noir, the citywide crime writing festival scheduled from February 20-25. McDermid, often hailed as the ‘Queen of Scottish Crime,’ is set to unravel insights into Gerritsen’s career, touching upon the creation of iconic characters like Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, whose adventures inspired the hit TV series “Rizzoli and Isles.”

Val McDermid, a literary force with over 17 million books sold globally, is celebrated for her diverse contributions to crime fiction. From the Wire in the Blood series to standalone novels, McDermid’s work spans multiple genres, showcasing her storytelling prowess. The Wire in the Blood series, featuring clinical psychologist Dr. Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan, even made its mark on television.

Internationally acclaimed Tess Gerritsen embarked on a distinctive journey to her writing career, graduating from Stanford University before pursuing medical studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Her debut medical thriller, “Harvest,” released in 1996, catapulted her onto the New York Times bestseller list, a place her subsequent novels have consistently occupied.
