20/10/2023

ABERDEEN City Council is to host a special event that will bring together the city’s kinship carers and give them the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 20 organisations which can help them.  Children are welcome at the event.

The free information event takes place at the Beach Ballroom on 2 November between 2 and 6pm and has been designed by the Council’s Kinship team to support grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and other relatives who have taken on the care of children in their family when parents are unable to.

Kinship carers will be able to find out at first-hand how organisations such as Fit Like Hubs, Family Learning, Citizens Advice Bureau, Sport Aberdeen, Families Outside and many more can help them look after the children they care for.

Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council’s Education and Children’s Services Convener, said: “Children really benefit from the stability of being in the care of their wider family group when their parents are unable to look after them.

“Kinship carers do a great job in providing loving family homes for young people and they are a much-valued resource within Aberdeen. We want to do everything we can to support them and would encourage as many as possible to come along, with their families, to find out how they can benefit from our local support networks.”
