AS part of this year’s Challenge Poverty Week, Aberdeen City Council joined four local third sector organisations at the Belmont Filmhouse to call for action based on social justice and compassion in turning the tide of poverty in the North East.
The event showcased films created by Station House Media Unit, ACVO, Cfine and Aberneccessities that highlighted how factors such as low income and a high cost of living are affecting thousands of households across the region.

A discussion followed the screening amongst the organisations about efforts being made to tackle poverty and to explore collaborate working.
Anti-Poverty and Inequality Committee Convener Councillor Christian Allard attended the event at the Belmont Filmhouse.
He said: “The work that people and organisations are doing across the North East is fundamental in tackling poverty and helping households overcome this struggle, and this was highlighted through the films shown at the event at the Belmont Filmhouse.
“Challenge Poverty Week provides us with the opportunity to come together and help those in our communities who may be struggling.”
Challenge Poverty Week was launched by the Poverty Alliance in 2013 to highlight the injustice of poverty in Scotland and provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to unite and call for a just and equal Scotland.
