AN exciting new tenant with a new concept to the Aberdeen bar and casual dining scene is the latest occupier in the city’s Marischal Square development.

Resident X – also known as RX – with a focus on collaborative residency kitchens, modern craft drinks, and high-energy social space, is set to open its doors in late Spring over two units within MSQ1 and help to boost city centre’s day and night-time economy.

RX will boast up to six independently run food and drinks units set amongst a vibrant array of seated and standing social areas, all with unique and stylish themes. All food vendors will also benefit from use of a large shared commercial pod kitchen within the facility, which will enable them to operate on delivery platforms independently from their front of house unit.

Units will be offered to both local vendors and national independents where it is hoped the spaces will help to display the best of the North-east in the Marischal Square development which includes two city centre office buildings providing 173,500 sq ft of Grade ‘A’ office space with secure parking, seven restaurants and café bar spaces occupying the ground floor space, and a 126-room Residence Inn by Marriott.

“Aberdeen City Council Leader, Councillor Jenny Laing said “By investing£107million into the Marischal Square development, Aberdeen City Council has achieved regeneration of the east end of the city centre. This project along with the investment in Provost Skene House, the Art Gallery, and the soon-to-open Union Terrace Gardens is creating a city centre that people want to live work and visit.

“I am delighted that the final unit within Marischal Square development has been taken over by new tenants and I am positive their offering will compliment what is already a flourishing hospitality complex which will boost the city centre economy by attracting more people into the area.”

Aberdeen City Council city growth and resources convener Councillor Ryan Houghton said: “The addition of the RX to the tenant list at Marischal Square is another endorsement of the development which is a major city centre transformational project fully supporting the long-term ambitions for the city.

“Business leaders can see the quality of the buildings and the amenities Marischal Square has to offer and they understand that their colleagues can benefit from a vibrant working environment which includes a mix of office and restaurant space.

“RX will help to attract a diverse range of dynamic and forward-thinking small businesses to the area and further enhance the business community in this part of the city.”

Two bars operated by RX will offer a range of craft drinks and premium cocktails to not only compliment the food offering, but also further establish the east end of the city as a vibrant late night social spot.

This modern, forward-thinking venue was created by David Griffiths and Michael Robertson of PARXX Group, off the back of their successful Backyard Beach Collective venues at the beach and Union Square last Summer.

PARXX Group Director David Griffiths said: “As proud Aberdonians, Michael and I have been on a mission to help develop Aberdeen’s food and drinks offering into something on par with larger cities across the UK, where collaboration and mixed-use social space are key components to both day and night-time venues.

“We are passionate about proactively contributing to the regeneration of the city centre and hope that RX will become not only a social hub for locals, but also contribute to making Aberdeen a more attractive prospect for both new businesses and tourists alike.”

PARXX Group Director Michael Robertson said: “We contemplated long and hard during the immediate aftermath of Backyard as to what our next move would be and what could make the biggest impact in the shortest time– we settled on an ‘indoor permanent version’ that will be a landmark project for us.

“RX will not only tap into the day-time scene but be a key night-time destination for all.”

To keep up to date with the latest news and announcements from RX, the existing Backyard social media pages have been converted to Resident X, with the new social handle @rx.msq.
