Securing your family’s future: Aberdeen residents urged to participate in will aid campaign

09/11/2023

ABERDEEN residents are being urged to seize the opportunity this month and participate in the Will Aid campaign, ensuring the protection of their family’s assets and inheritance during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Will Aid, a nationwide fundraising campaign, enables individuals to have their Wills written by volunteering solicitors throughout November.

The scheme, operating across the UK, allows solicitors like Wilson & Duffus to dedicate their time to writing Wills, giving individuals a chance to check off this crucial task from their to-do lists and safeguard their family’s future. The campaign, established in 1988, has raised over £24 million in donations, benefiting nine leading charities: ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland), and Trocaire (N. Ireland).

Appointments for Will Aid consultations are now available at Wilson & Duffus, and for those unable to attend in person, remote instructions can be arranged with several participating firms. To book an appointment, individuals are encouraged to visit the official Will Aid website (www.willaid.org.uk). Bookings will close at the end of November, and given the anticipated high demand, early appointments are advisable.

Peter de Vena Franks, Campaign Director for Will Aid, emphasized the importance of the funds raised each year. “The money raised each year is incredibly important for each of our partner charities. It was inspiring to see our committed solicitors continue to volunteer their time to raise vital funds last year,” he said. Franks urged individuals without a Will to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their loved ones and support charitable causes.

Jonathan Chase, Chair of Will Aid, expressed gratitude to the solicitors volunteering their time. “We are very grateful to all the solicitors, new and returning, who selflessly volunteer their time to write thousands of Wills without their normal fee each year,” he noted. Their philanthropy not only helps local residents protect their loved ones but also supports the Will Aid partner charities in their life-changing work.

This initiative not only ensures the financial security of families but also contributes to the significant impact these charities make in their respective fields. Residents are encouraged to act promptly, secure their appointments, and contribute to both their family’s well-being and the broader community through their participation in the Will Aid campaign.
